Minnesota Timberwolves 2009 Draft

The Timberwolves have not figured what to do to start winning games since they traded Kevin Garnett to the Celtics. Quite frankly, I don't think the Wolves got a fair deal for Garnett and they made a ridiculous trade. The Wolves have a potential all-star in Al Jefferson, but they do not have a team around him that is needed for Minnesota to be successful. The Wolves have an outstanding five, I repeat, FIVE picks in this year's draft.

At pick #6 the Timberwolves should draft:
Tyreke Evans - Memphis
SG
6'5" 221 lbs.

Evans' vision and passing are extremely advanced, and he's shown that he can be a reliable distributor. Even though Evans rarely finishes above the rim, he has a great touch around the basket, and uses his body and finesse to convert on a good percentage of shots. Defensively, he has great hands and his wingspan allows him to get deflections at a high rate. Evans' jumpshot has shown very little progress and he continues to struggle with inconsistent shooting.

At pick #18 the Timberwolves should draft:
Jrue Holiday - UCLA
PG/SG
6'4" 199 lbs.

Holiday has a deceptive first step and shifty quickness making him difficult to contain on the perimeter. He is unselfish and possesses good court vision and has shown glimpses of being able to be the starting PG for an NBA franchise. Holiday shoots off the side of his head with the shooting elbow way out resulting in his shot being all over the place. He does not have the superb athleticism or strength like many other combo guards either. Jrue Holiday is very similar to a scoring guard like Delonte West.

At pick #28 the Timberwolves should draft:
Sam Young - Pittsburgh
SF
6'6" 223 lbs.

Young is a great athlete with a wingspan that is great for his height. His strength is also commendable. Young has put a lot of effort into his jumpshot and is therefore a potent threat from outside. He also has an awkward looking, effective jump fake. Young is not the smoothest player, his movements lack fluidity and at times he looks very uncomfortable on offense. Young is simlar to Joey Graham.

At pick #45 the Timberwolves should draft:
Robert Dozier - Memphis
SF/PF
6'10" 215 lbs.

Dozier is a very lanky player standing at 6'10" and only weighing 215 lbs. Dozier is one of those combo forwards whose skills would awkwardly translate to the NBA. Dozier is too big and not a potent enough scorer to be a SF yet he is not strong enough to be an NBA PF. His rebounding and blocking skills need improvement. Dozier's biggest strength would have to be his ability to handle the ball well for a forward.

At pick #47 the Timberwolves should draft:
Dante Cunningham - Villanova
SF/PF
6'8" 227 lbs.

Cunningham's work ethic and desire to improve cannot be questioned. Cunningham transformed himself from a scrappy, hustle, workingman's player into a polished offensive player and top scoring option on a final four team. He has a fluid, effortless stroke and quick release. Cunningham possesses good timing on shot blocks, averaging 1.2 bpg during his senior season at Nova.
