Miami Heat 2009 Draft

The Miami Heat were the most improved team of the 2008-2009 season. They improved from 15-67 in 2007-2008 to 43-39 in 2008-2009. The Heat had a successful draft in 2008 adding Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers to their roster, both of which started right away. The Heat need a consistent center who will stay healthy and an effective SF.

At pick #43 the Heat should draft:
Rodrigue Beaubois - France
PG
6'2" 182 lbs.

Though being a short and skinny PG, he makes up for his lack of size with his amazing speed and athleticism. Beaubois is a strong defender and a reliable shooter with a nice high arcing shot. His biggest weakness is his invisible ability to create plays on his own, which is very important for an NBA caliber PG. Beaubois is most like Rajon Rondo and could be a solid backup after 2 years in the NBDL.

At pick #60 the Heat should draft:
Courtney Fells - NC State
SG
6'6" 210 lbs.

Fells has good size for a SG and has decent foot speed. His strength is his ability to score on the fastbreak as opposed to his miniscule ability to score while being defended. His biggest weakness would be his strength, which is practically non-existent though he is oversized for a SG. He will be a definite 3 year NBDL player and will probably end up playing in Europe and never putting on that Heat jersey.
